Rama carried the flag of Raghuvamsa into his battle against Ravana. As per the Skanda and Kurma puranas, the flag depicted 3 leaves of the Shami tree (Vanni maram) in the center against a crimson background (arukku colour background) such that the 3 leaves looked like flames of the sun
